Filling The City With The Gospel
The apostles were troublemakers in Jerusalem. Acts 5 records that they had made the religious authorities mad and were cast into prison. Later, they were delivered by the angel of the Lord and commanded to go to the temple and preach the Gospel. Shortly therafter, the Bible tells us in Acts 5:27-28,
“And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.”
The high priest rebuked them for preaching Jesus and accused them of filling Jerusalem with the Gospel. A handful of men filled a city with the good news of Jesus Christ. Could that be done again? The answer is a resounding YES.
Just as the apostles sought to fill Jerusalem with the Gospel, we are seeking to do the same in Washington D.C. What does it take to fill a city with the Gospel? Read on and find out.
It takes people who are called by the Lord. The apostles were called by Jesus to follow him and were willing to give their lives for the Gospel. The Gospel will never saturate D.C. unless men and women are willing to give their all and dedicate their lives to the Lord. While the Lord is no longer calling apostles, He has instructed us to preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). What would happen if people from hundreds of churches joined us in the summer of 2026 to fill the city with the Gospel? Hear God’s call and find out.
It takes courage to proclaim the message of the Gospel. The Gospel message often necessitates a bold delivery. The apostles knew that many in the crowd would not be receptive and that the authorities would be adversarial. Yet, they continued preaching the message. Hollywood actors and athletes are bold in their earthly agendas. It is time for God’s people to be bold with the Gospel. This boldness is rooted in the filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:31).
It also takes conviction to preach the Gospel. Are you persuaded of it in your heart? Peter was when he said, “We ought to obey God rather than man.” While preaching the Gospel is not illegal in America, it is sometimes discouraged and looked down upon. It will take men and women of conviction to spread the doctrine of the Gospel throughout Washington D.C.
Our nation’s capital is filled with rich history, conflicting agendas, and much confusion. May the Lord help us to fill it with the Gospel in the summer of 2026.
